About Me...

Therapy Training & Experience
I qualified through Metanoia Institute in West London, and am a Registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), working within the guidelines of its Ethical Framework, and with supervision. I also have an Advanced Post-Diploma Certificate in Couples Counselling.
Clients have come to me with issues such as : abortion, abuse, anger, anxiety, autism, bereavement - including loss of a child or baby, bullying, childhood issues, cultural issues, depression, difficulty accessing & expressing feelings, disability, hopelessness, identity, infertility, lack of confidence, life transitions, loneliness & isolation, loss of motivation or direction, low self esteem, panic attacks, relationship and communication difficulties, self harm, sexuality, shame, sleep disorders, stress, trauma, and work-related problems.
As well as working with adult clients, I have experience with primary and secondary school age children & young people, and within organisations : Place2Be, Metanoia Counselling & Psychotherapy Service, Bereavement Services for Hounslow, Carers in Bedfordshire, and Relate. My particular interests in the therapy field are in attachment & loss, child development, relational and communication difficulties.
Background
My previous career was in Education, including Teacher Training/Management and Offender Learning. A qualified teacher, I worked in Further/Higher Education both in the UK and overseas, where I acquired skills of group facilitation, and 1-1 coaching and mentoring. An increasing interest in relationships and communication, led me towards therapy training. I have always been passionate about equal opportunities and nurturing personal empowerment, and thus felt drawn to the Person-Centred Approach which I see as a 'liberation' therapy - fostering growth, creativity, individual expression, and personal freedom. I have experience with other types of Counselling and Psychotherapy through my own personal counselling whilst in training, but found the Person-Centred Approach to be both the closest match to my own life philosophy and, long term, the most effective.
I also practise reiki, yoga, meditation, mindfulness, creative/expressive arts. As well as Counselling, I'm a trained Mental Health Mentor, and singer - running a singing group for expectant mums and mums nursing babies, Thula Mama, in the Richmond/Twickenham area (please see Singing for Wellbeing section for details.).
